Tooth and Claw Afternoon and Night Drive

Schotia is a private game reserve and we can take our guests as close as possible to get the best viewing of rhino, hippo, giraffe and the king of the beasts, lion! We try to show our guests as much as possible on a drive and concentrate on the popular sightings rather than 'the birds and the bees'.

The tooth & claw lodge sleeps a maximum of six guests in three double chalets. All three chalets have en-suite bathrooms as well as a fireplace. The chalets are very private and built in the heart of the bush, which creates a unique and private atmosphere. The lodge prides itself on personalized service and has a highly motivated staff, offering 24 hour service on a fully catered basis only.

1 & 2 Night Packages

Stay with us overnight and you will not only be lulled to sleep by the gentle night sounds of Africa, but you will also have a second drive before breakfast. During the morning drive you may look for anything you missed the night before, or have a brief insight into 'the birds and the bees' and other smaller details that make the bush work. Whether you want a simple overnight stay with us, or an extended stay to soak up the atmosphere of the African bush, we have the package deal to suit your needs.

Option 1: Tooth & Claw plus Bed and Breakfast

Day 1: Check in for the afternoon / evening Schotia Tooth & Claw safari and experience some of the best game viewing the Eastern Cape can offer. Relax over dinner and enjoy our delicious safari cuisine, knowing that after coffee around the fire your ranger will take you for a short drive to your lodge where you will be lulled to sleep by the night sounds of the African bush.

Day 2: Awake to the sound of birds and have a cup of tea or coffee before your ranger takes you on a morning drive. During this drive you can search for any of the animals you did not see the night before, or start to look at some of the smaller details that make the bush work. After a hearty breakfast you return to our reception area where we wave goodbye and you continue your holiday.

Option 2: Tooth & Claw plus Addo with 2 nights Bed and Breakfast

Day 1: Check in for the afternoon / evening Schotia Tooth & Claw safari and experience some of the best game viewing the Eastern Cape can offer. Relax over dinner and enjoy our delicious safari cuisine, knowing that after coffee around the fire your ranger will take you for a short drive to your lodge where you will be lulled to sleep by the night sounds of the African bush.

Day 2: Awake to the sound of birds and have a cup of tea or coffee before your ranger takes you on a morning drive. During this drive you can search for any of the animals you did not see the night before, or start to look at some of the smaller details that make the bush work. After a hearty breakfast you change vehicles and it's off to Addo Elephant National Park for your Addo Tour. The morning is spent searching for, and viewing elephants in an area containing the world's most dense elephant population. We eat a wholesome lunch at a local farmstall restaurant before returning to the reserve.
A second afternoon / evening safari will give you another chance to take more photos, see different animals or just relax and watch the animals' behaviour. Another sumptuous dinner is followed by your second night in the bush.

After a delicious breakfast you return to our reception area where we wave goodbye and you continue your holiday.

ROOMS
For a real 'African' feel, try one of our three themed bush lodges - one is a 'family' lodge, with two bunk-beds and a double bed, the other two are honeymoon style doubles. Set within dense subtropical thicket these rustic-brick and thatch lodges have the comforts you would expect of a top class reserve - en suite shower/bathroom with running hot and cold water, coffee/tea making facilities and a real fire to welcome you on colder evenings. What they do lack is the trappings of the modern world - satellite TV, 24 hour room service and electricity (don't worry - we can still charge cameras and batteries for you)! Lamps will be lit for you in the evening and the rooms are serviced daily.

For those who would prefer electricity, we now have eight rooms available in Orlando Lodge, a converted dairy within the original farm's homestead.
The rooms have a double bed (although two of the rooms can be in a two-single-bed format), ceiling fan for warmer evenings and electric blanket in the bed to keep you cosy on a cold winter's night. The rooms are also equipped with tea and coffee facilities, an en-suite shower and wash basin. Each row of four rooms shares a toilet.
